lunette

A crescent-shaped landform — specifically, a low ridge of wind-deposited sediment on the lee side of a dry lake bed or playa. Lunettes are common in arid and semi-arid landscapes, built as prevailing winds carry sand and clay off the dry lake surface. Also: the crescent-shaped opening above a door or window in architecture.
