The Note

Three women who met as teenagers and have a bad summer in their shared past take a weekend in the Hamptons to patch things up. A car cuts them off, they’re annoyed, and one of them leaves a note on the windshield as a joke. The driver disappears, the note becomes evidence, and every reporter who covered their old scandal comes back around. Burke was a prosecutor and it shows in the mechanics — how quickly a stupid impulse becomes a legal problem, how the press rebuilds a story from fragments. The interest is in what the three of them decide to tell each other and what they keep back. Not at all like the Apple series “Imperfect Women,” but not unlike it, either.
