Summer 1989: Ten-year-old Suzanne talks her way onto tour with her father Gil, a metal guitarist one break away from being somebody, and his band the Kills. She’s a music obsessive with a camera and no ability to play, and she watches the whole thing — the rivalry with the other guitarist, the drugs, the rooms getting bigger — until it ends in violence she is the only witness to. Twenty-nine years later Gil dies and leaves her everything, and she walks out of a dull marriage and hits the road to find out what actually happened. The husband follows.
