Higaki is an industrial designer at Seiko, and this teaches drawing as a way of understanding how things are made. You sketch a stapler, a chair, a shoe, a coffee grinder — and the exercises push you to look for structure, joins, materials, and why a curve is where it is. Sixty-odd short exercises, each on an ordinary object, building from line and perspective to shading, texture, and rendering different materials. Aimed at designers, but it works for anybody who wants to draw the actual world rather than a picture of it.
