The Hunter

On My Shelf, Not Yet Read

Second Cal Hooper. Cal, a retired Chicago cop, has settled into the west of Ireland village of Ardnakelty, is with Lena, and is teaching a teenage girl named Trey carpentry. Then Trey’s father comes back, four years gone, with an English money man and a story about gold in the mountain, and starts selling shares to the neighbors. Trey wants him destroyed for what he did to her family and sees the con as her chance. Cal can see it coming. It’s the driest summer on record, the fields are burning off, and French turns the screws slowly with everybody being polite about it.
