We Are Unprepared

Read

Ash and Pia leave Brooklyn for rural Vermont wanting a simpler life, and then the forecasts start describing a superstorm months out — big enough that the government begins issuing guidance and the town begins picking sides. Pia throws herself into prepping and a charismatic local survivalist. Ash tries to stay reasonable. Their neighbors split between people stockpiling and people refusing to believe it, and the marriage comes apart faster than the weather does. Reilly worked in the Obama White House on climate messaging, and the book is really about how a community behaves in the waiting.
