Natalie Heller Mills sells the pioneer life to millions of followers — raw milk, farm eggs, five kids, a husband, a ranch in Idaho, all of it shot beautifully and none of it done by her, since there are nannies and hands and a producer off camera. Then her husband sleeps with the producer, Natalie hits her, and the whole brand goes up. And then she wakes up cold and filthy in 1855, in a pioneer version of her own family who will not let her leave. Burke alternates the two timelines chapter by chapter, and the fun is watching a woman who has never done a hard thing meet the life she monetized.
