feral

FAIR-ul

Domesticated and gone wild — an animal or plant that has escaped human control and reverted to a self-sustaining existence. A feral cat is not a wild cat. It carries the memory of domestication in its genes and the refusal of it in its behavior.
Etymology
Latin: feralis (of or belonging to the dead, wild), from fera (wild animal), from ferus (wild, untamed). The word entered English in the early 17th century.
