firecrest

FIRE-krest

The smallest bird in Europe alongside the goldcrest — five grams, a body the size of a large thumb, with a blaze of orange and yellow feathers on its crown that flares when the bird is agitated. The firecrest is easy to overlook and almost impossible to forget once you've seen one up close.
Etymology
English compound: fire + crest. Named for the brilliant orange-red stripe on the crown of the male.
