magpie

MAG-pye

A large, striking corvid — black and white, long-tailed, loud, and legendarily attracted to bright objects (though the science on this is weaker than the folklore). Magpies are among the most intelligent birds in the world: they recognize themselves in mirrors, use tools, hold apparent funerals for their dead, and remember the faces of individual humans who have threatened them. They are also one of the few non-mammal species known to grieve.
Etymology
Mag (short for Margaret, a common name used for chatterers) + pie (from Latin pica, magpie). The bird named for its talking.
