Etymology
Welsh, from “môr” (sea) + the locative/place suffix “-fa” (place of, place for) — literally “place of the sea.” The same “-fa” suffix appears in other Welsh place-type nouns; “môr” also underlies “morfil” (whale, literally “sea-wolf”) and “morlyn” (lagoon).
