rape
RAYP
A cruciferous plant of the genus Brassica — specifically Brassica napus, cultivated for its oil-rich seeds. Rapeseed fields in bloom turn entire landscapes a violent, almost fluorescent yellow. The plant is ancient; the name is unrelated to the crime. Canola is a cultivar of rapeseed bred in Canada.
Etymology
Latin: rapum, rapa (turnip). The plant was classified with turnips in the Brassica family. The word entered English in the 14th century as a crop name.
