raptor

RAP-tor

A bird of prey — any bird that hunts with talons and a hooked beak. Eagles, hawks, falcons, owls, kites, ospreys. The word covers a wide taxonomic range unified by a single evolutionary strategy: seize, kill, tear.
Etymology
Latin: raptor (one who seizes), from rapere (to seize, to snatch). The same root gives us rapture and rapid.
