rook
ROOK
A large, black, social corvid of Europe and western Asia — distinguished from the crow by a bare, whitish face patch at the base of the bill and a more peaked crown. Rooks nest colonially in tall trees, in noisy, chaotic communities called rookeries. They are among the most intelligent birds in the world.
Etymology
Old English hrōc, of imitative origin — the name sounds like the bird's call. Related to Old Norse hrókr and Middle High German ruoch.
