wolf moon

WUULF MOON
The wolf moon is the full moon of January. It belongs to a set of month names for full moons that circulates widely in almanacs and popular astronomy: the snow moon in February, the worm moon in March, the pink moon in April, the sturgeon moon in August, the harvest moon and the hunter’s moon in autumn, the cold moon in December.
Etymology
The names are usually presented as a single traditional system and they are not. They are a mixed set assembled from English, colonial American, and various Native American traditions, collected and standardized by twentieth-century almanacs, and the attributions given for individual names are frequently unsupported. Different peoples used different names, different numbers of moons, and different reckonings.
