BARN dor
A swinging climbing fall on a rope, in which the climber pivots sideways around one hand or foot that remains on the rock — the body swinging open like a barn door on a hinge. Usually the result of losing contact with the wall on one side.
Etymology
English climbing slang, mid-20th century. The metaphor is visual: the climber's body swings like a hinged door.
