kite
KYTE
A raptor of the family Accipitridae — long-winged, fork-tailed, built for soaring. Kites ride thermals with an effortlessness that makes other birds of prey look like they're working. The flying toy is named after the bird, not the other way around.
Etymology
Old English cyta, of uncertain origin. The toy kite (1660s) was named for the bird's hovering flight.
